  2. Este paso marca un punto de inflexión en la historia del campo de la salud, por cuanto Jamaica es el primer país en adoptar GNU Health con proyecciones nacionales. Una tarea herculeana, esta implementación demanda una integración intersectorial de parte de todas las regiones del país. De ahí que no sólo la Secretaria Permanente del Ministerio de Salud, la Dra. Jean Dixon, brindara su aval para con el proyecto, sino que el Sr. Gary Campbell (Director, TIC; Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología, Energía y Minería) también hizo extensiva su bendición al momento que anunciaba un proyecto gubernamental de migración al software libre (GOJ FOSS Migration project, en inglés) y cómo se articularían ambos emprendimientos.

  3. With a bright Caribbean sun and an even brighter welcoming crew, GNU Health unshipped in a new bay recently. In cooperation with the Jamaican Ministry of Health, a group from GNU Solidario visited the country and officially inaugurated the project of deploying GNU Health, a free health and hospital information system, within their public health care system.

Jamaica’s fisheries sector is to benefit from a multimillion dollar aquaculture project targeting the production of silver tilapia fresh-water fish with potential earnings up to US$200 million per annum. The initiative, for which a four-month $10 million pilot project was recently concluded, is spearheaded by newly established entity, Sunshine Aquaculture Limited, in partnership with Aqua Wilson Farm, a 100-acre fresh water fish sanctuary in Hill Run, St Catherine.

  10. “There is still another level that we can take the Diaspora homeland partnership. The flow of remittances globally is US$425 billion, that is three to four times the flow of official development assistance, and that explains why first-world countries, such as the United States of America has taken very keen interest in the Diaspora movement,” the state minister said. Brown was providing an update on the conference to business interests and others in Montego Bay on Monday. “I want (persons) to understand that the Diaspora movement is not just in terms of monetary resources, it is expertise, innovation, ideas, drive, and we are talking about people being able to get things done,” Brown said
